The scheme comprises of improvement to highway infrastructure at Grays
Station (South Side), New Road.
Proposed works : Grays Station (South Side) New Road The proposed improvements
to Grays Station (south side), New Road are to comprise of the following :-
1. A pedestrian crossing facility designated by red surfacing on the
flat-top speed table at the eastern end of the station will provide a safe
crossing route for pedestrians and will also calm the traffic entering the
station,
2. A splitter island opposite the station to provide separation of
opposite bound traffic,
3. Enhanced pedestrian route with drop crossings, tactile paving, buff
coloured surfacing and pedestrian markings
4. A turning facility for traffic at the western end of the station
will eliminate existing unsafe vehicle manoeuvres opposite the station building,
5. Relocation of existing disabled parking to a safer location to the
west side of the station building together with a pedestrian route that is close
to the station entrance,
6. 15 number cycle stand storage on hard surfacing with canopy
protection for the train users,
7. Provision of street lighting on new splitter island,
8. Signing for the new layout
9. renewal of carriageway/footway surfacing with appropriate levels to
ensure surface drainage
10. Road markings for new layout.
11. Relocation of existing height restrictions
Proposed Amenity Lighting
Two lighting columns, within the splitter island to the front of the station
building will be provided.
A review of the existing/proposed private lighting provision will be carried out
by Thurrock and in discussion with C2C Train Operator.
Traffic Management
Temporary traffic management on New Road and the station frontage during the
works will disrupt road and pedestrian traffic but measures will be taken to
minimise this. Arrangements for access for emergency services will be
incorporated into the design.

The work is expected to take approximately three months from the beginning of
February 2005.
